It’s been a while since I’ve put up a post. I’ve been busy living, whatever that means.
Annnnnddd…while I’ve been living, the rest of the world has been turning. Turning into what, is the question. Actually the world is what it’s always been…one tough place to live.
The Penn State Debacle, or as Wikipedia terms it the Penn State child sexual abuse scandal, is a real life tragedy full of sordid details and an endless array of seemingly respectable characters complicit in the scandal. Pedophilia, greed, and a conspiracy of silence has traumatized the lives of at least 8 children and their families, and shocked the Penn State community, college football fans and the public at large. Of course, among all of the college scandals (and there are plenty of them), this one has taken the cake, and now the public demands “justice” (it’s in quotes on purpose).
Speaking of justice, ”the new 52” Justice League No.2 has a back up feature in the comic that has details of some Wonder Woman’s early exploits in Man’s World, told through conversation between Steve Trevor and Amanda Waller. And boy has she been dispensing “justice”…run, Jerry Sandusky (the alleged perpetrator) run, or don’t depending on your point of view. Wonder Woman rescues children from kidnapping and slits the throat of a kidnapper in front of them. Now this issue predates the scandal but still! I’m not suggesting that the Penn State Scandal and the comic shares any links at all…other than crimes against children…oh, and downright shameful behavior from those that we believe in.
There will always be predators, but witnessing child rape and not preventing it; slitting the throat of a kidnapper, more accurate, Wonder Woman slitting the throat of a kidnapper in front of children… Lord have mercy.
Reality, fiction…ugh.
What is not fiction is that she, as a character, has stood for something more. Joe Paterno, and “the others” (those with influence and who knew of Sandusky), allegedly stood for more…that it seems wasn’t the reality.
I was at work, on a Sunday, and while working and talking on the phone…the doodles started. Working on character designs, and other stuff (I’m not ready to show), Wonder Woman and Donna Troy (yes that’s her)…maaaaagically popped out of the pencil and onto the paper. And I thought, she’s really disappointed, in everybody.
I know I am.
